Darryl-ByleDarryl is a registered Professional Engineer and ICC Certified Plans Examiner and Building Inspector with over 30 years of engineering and project management experience in a wide range of projects.  His experience with the design, construction, and inspection aspects of projects provides a broad base for design, plan review, project management and inspection.  His engineering firm, DSB Engineering and Consulting, PC, is a consultant for multiple jurisdictions and design firms where he contributes his engineering expertise to all stages and aspects of the building process, including conceptual design, layout, structural design, code compliance, and investigation.

During the last three years, Darryl has turned his professional focus to Cross-Laminated Timber production, design, and construction.  As a result, he has had opportunity to provide preliminary engineering and technical support on CLT projects completed inVancouver,BCandNorth Carolinaas well as over 80 CLT conceptual project proposals/estimates.

In January of 2010, Darryl was selected to sit on the APA Standards Committee on Cross-Laminated Timber.  In December of 2011, the committee released the completed standard: PRG 320-2011: Standard for Performance-Rated Cross-Laminated Timber.  This standard has passed the initial review by ICC and has initial approval for inclusion in the 2015 IBC code release.

These experiences led to Darryl serving as the design engineer and project manager for the first fully CLT commercial building completed in the United States – The Long Hall project in Whitefish, MT completed Fall 2011.

The Long Hall project gave opportunity to develop and work through CLT specific engineering analysis techniques, building code analysis and resolution of CLT associated issues (including attaining approval to use CLT as a stand-alone 1 hour fire rated assembly), as well as construction coordination logistics, connection design, and exterior finish solutions
